Have you ever played the game “gossip?” A phrase is chosen by the first player and it’s whispered from one player to the next around the circle. It’s a simple but funny game, as you hear how little the final phrase resembles the initial phrase. The same situation frequently occurs with software training. The first couple of employees who were trained by the software company will always misinterpret or forget some things they were taught. They will then train the next employees, who will do the same, and this process continues to degrade how efficiently we use our software. An office that’s been open for three years or more will very likely need to bring a good trainer in to get their software usage back up to a really useful standard. We miss so many things our software can do to assist us every day when we fail to retrain on a regular basis.
