So you have a great Policy Manual….possibly even one we created for you here at Mosaic….are you all set now? Not completely. Every practice should also have a front and back procedure manual. These are vital as training tools for new employees and back up for temps. A front office manual should contain everything the front office assistant/office manager does every day, week, month and year with details on how to complete each task. Tasks such as how to file insurance electronically, how to check benefits on line, and just plain what we turn on and get ready first thing in the morning should all have detailed instructions in the manual. The operatory manual should also have (in addition to some of the previously mentioned items) detailed instructions for each procedure and a photo of each tray set up, as well as instructions for the autoclave and statim.
If you need reasons:
- What if your one great front desk associate has to leave town suddenly to care for a sick relative?
- What if you really need to bring a temp in when your most highly trained assistant is on vacation?
- And the best reason yet….what if you’d like to check what’s going on in your office? Could you run all the reports and check all the employee logs?
These manuals do take a while to create fully, but they are invaluable to the growth and well-being of your practice. If you’re not sure where to begin, let us know and we can help.
