Many local assisting schools have great internship programs that will provide a growing office with a real win-win situation. Your office will have an extra set of hands (at no cost to you) and you will be providing great training to a future dental assistant for the community. You might also be doing the world’s longest “working interview” for your next employee. The really excellent schools have a lengthy internship program for students and are always looking for good offices in which to place them…..specialty offices are particularly desirable, as they are often requested by students with interest in a special area of dentistry.
A school representative will come out to your office and interview you…..it’s a very brief, painless process to be sure you’re serious about training assistants, and not just looking for free labor. They will then send a student to interview with you…..you‘re always free to say “no thanks” if you feel someone isn’t up to your office standards. So many of our practices have taken interns into the practice with excellent results…….and many have kept a great employee when the process is done. With the new assisting school season coming up, it might be a great time to consider internship in your office.
